iGaming Talent Pulse — Week 32: Flutter names Dan Taylor CEO, Novig hires Kalshi’s legal chief, Scientific Games’ McHugh steps down, and Catena Media and Betfred cut more jobs

A weekly read on hiring, licenses, and executive moves shaping the iGaming labor market — and what each signal means for talent leaders.

💜 by the IDN Recruitment team

This week’s clearest pattern is a bifurcation. In the most commoditized corners of the industry — UK high-street retail betting and affiliate marketing — cost pressure keeps trimming headcount in small, steady increments rather than one dramatic event. One level up, though, the C-suite and commercial layer is unusually active: Flutter set its next Group CEO, Scientific Games opened a marquee succession search, and content suppliers kept raiding each other for Head-of-Commercial talent. Most notably, a prediction-market-adjacent sportsbook pulled a senior regulatory executive straight out of Kalshi — a sign that the line between sports betting and prediction markets is starting to blur in the labor market too, not just in product.

1. Flutter Entertainment names Dan Taylor as next Group CEO

On August 5, Flutter’s board announced that Dan Taylor — currently President & CEO of Flutter International — will become Group Chief Executive Officer effective October 1, succeeding Peter Jackson, who steps down September 30 and stays on as an advisor through year-end. Yogonet

Why it matters: This is an internal-promotion succession, which signals continuity of strategy rather than a shake-up — but it opens a highly sought seat: CEO of Flutter International, a $9bn+ revenue division. Expect Flutter to either promote from its own senior bench or run an external search over the next two quarters, and expect further reshuffling beneath Taylor as he assembles his own leadership team. Recruiters working operator C-suite mandates should start mapping Flutter’s VP/SVP layer now.

2. Novig hires Kalshi’s former legal chief as it builds out its regulatory function

Novig, a sports-betting exchange operating in prediction-market-adjacent territory, hired Elie Mishory — previously chief regulatory officer and general counsel at Kalshi — as its new Chief Regulatory and Legal Affairs Officer, alongside Adam Warrington as SVP of External Affairs, SBC Americas reported on August 6. SBC Americas

Why it matters: This is the clearest evidence yet that sports-betting exchanges and prediction-market platforms are now competing for the same compliance and legal talent pool, as both face similar state-by-state regulatory battles. Recruiters sourcing regulatory-affairs leaders for exchange-model operators should widen their search to Kalshi, CFTC and adjacent policy-world alumni — this hire likely won’t be the last of its kind this year.

3. Scientific Games’ CEO Pat McHugh to step down; Kevin Schneider named interim CEO

Scientific Games announced that CEO Pat McHugh will retire on September 8 after more than 20 years with the company, with the board naming Kevin Schneider as interim CEO while it runs a search for a permanent successor. SBC Americas

Why it matters: This opens a marquee CEO search at one of the industry’s largest suppliers — a strong signal for executive-search mandates in the lottery and gaming-technology supplier segment. Interim-leadership windows like this one are exactly when talent leaders should proactively map both SG’s internal bench and comparable operator/supplier CEOs who could be approached.

4. BetGames appoints Inesa Glazaitė as Head of Commercial

BetGames named Inesa Glazaitė as its new Head of Commercial on August 5, bringing her over from senior roles at Soft2Bet, Delasport and iGaming Platform to lead the live-content supplier’s global expansion. AGB

Why it matters: Another data point in the ongoing commercial-leadership churn among B2B content suppliers scaling into newly regulated markets. Baltic/CEE-based commercial executives with pan-European operator relationships remain some of the most in-demand — and most portable — profiles in the industry right now. Expect Soft2Bet and Delasport to be actively backfilling this seat.

5. Playbook Fusion hires Ashley Bloor from Aristocrat Interactive as VP of Commercial

Playbook Fusion appointed Ashley Bloor — previously Director of Partnerships at Aristocrat Interactive, with earlier stints at EveryMatrix, Gaming Innovation Group, William Hill and Gala Coral — as its new Vice President of Commercial, Gaming Intelligence reported on August 7. Gaming Intelligence

Why it matters: This confirms that experienced partnerships/commercial executives with multi-supplier CVs (EveryMatrix, GiG, Aristocrat) are the most sought-after — and most transferable — profile for content studios expanding into new verticals like sports-gaming hybrids. Worth tracking Aristocrat Interactive’s bench for further outbound moves this quarter.

6. Catena Media sheds five more roles in ongoing restructuring

Catena Media cut five additional positions across its technology, marketing and regional-sites teams on August 7, the latest in a multi-year string of restructurings tied to Google algorithm changes and heavy US-market dependence. Gambling News

Why it matters: Affiliate marketing remains the most structurally challenged talent segment in the industry. Smaller, recurring cuts like this one — rather than one large event — point to continued attrition rather than stabilization. That means a steady supply of experienced SEO/content/performance-marketing candidates who could be redirected toward operator-side CRM, content or growth-marketing roles, often at attractive rates for hiring clients.

7. Betfred to close 132 UK shops, putting roughly 600 retail jobs at risk

Betfred confirmed plans to close 132 betting shops across the UK, citing higher National Insurance contributions, wage inflation and gambling-tax increases, with closures expected to begin in September, reported on August 3. Covers.com

Why it matters: This continues the structural decline of UK high-street retail betting employment and accelerates the shift of talent toward digital and online roles. Displaced retail managers and regional operations staff are a viable sourcing pool for digital customer-support, trading or retail-to-digital transition hires — and this is a leading indicator that further UK retail consolidation is likely through the rest of 2026.

The common thread

Cost-driven cuts persist in the industry’s most commoditized segments — UK retail betting and affiliate marketing — but this week’s real story sits a level above: an unusually busy stretch for C-suite and commercial moves, from Flutter’s top succession to a cluster of Head-of-Commercial hires at content suppliers, plus the first clearly visible hire of a Kalshi alum into a betting-adjacent legal seat. Talent is moving laterally between rival suppliers and, increasingly, across the once-firm line between sportsbooks and prediction markets. For talent leaders, this is the moment to map succession benches at major operators, keep a watchlist on prediction-market regulatory and legal hires, and expect commercial-leadership searches at suppliers to keep drawing from a small, well-travelled pool of pan-European executives.

This is exactly the terrain IDN Recruitment works in — helping operators and suppliers build out these leadership benches and identify the next Ashley Bloor or Inesa Glazaitė before a competitor does. If you’re staffing a commercial, regulatory or executive search this quarter, we’d welcome the conversation.
