iGaming Talent Pulse — Week 30: Entain Cuts 500 Roles, Evolution Malta Compliance, Board & CMO Shifts

A weekly read on hiring, licenses, and executive moves shaping the iGaming labor market — and what each signal means for talent leaders.

This week’s signals form a cohesive picture: large-scale cuts at Entain are releasing a strong pool of product, tech, and corporate talent onto the market, while hubs in Malta and Cyprus continue to aggressively compete for engineering and BI leadership. The UKGC enforcement against Evolution Malta underscores that compliance and risk management have firmly become board-level priorities where delays carry heavy costs. Meanwhile, executive and board-level changes at Bragg and Entain are set to trigger a secondary wave of movement across the senior segment.

Here’s what we’re seeing — and what it means for the hiring decisions on your agenda this quarter.

Every floor is moving

The market moved on all levels at once this week: large groups are cutting central functions, the Malta and Cyprus hubs keep absorbing engineers, and there were two notable changes at board and C-level. For anyone hiring, this is the widest window in months.

1. Entain to cut around 500 roles globally

The company announced an efficiency drive hitting central functions first — finance and HR — along with product and technology.

What it means: a pool of vetted product, tech and corporate-function people is entering the market. Windows like this close in weeks, not months. If you have an open role in those areas, build the shortlist now — and check in with your own key people, because they will be on someone’s target list too. (Casino.com)

2. UKGC: Evolution Malta to pay £4.75m

Evolution Malta Holding Limited agreed to the payment following an investigation into games supplied to six unlicensed sites accessible in the UK. The regulator noted the breaches were serious enough to consider licence suspension.

What it means: enforcement is moving up the B2B supply chain. Compliance, AML, supplier oversight and risk stop being cost centres and become board-level hires. That candidate market is thin — you build the pool before the regulator’s letter arrives, not after. (Gambling Commission)

3. The hubs are not cooling: Malta and Limassol

Betsson’s public careers page lists 127 openings including Malta, among them a director-level Head of Engineering (Brand Experience) based at its Malta headquarters. In Cyprus (Limassol, hybrid), tech roles stay consistently open — Senior Software Engineer, Junior BI Analyst and others.

What it means: engineering leadership and BI/analytics are competitive again at hub level. Budget for counter-offers and keep the process short — in this market you lose strong candidates on speed, not on money. (Betsson Group, Career Finders)

4. A published benchmark: Customer Success

Playtech lists €2,300–2,700 per month for a Customer Success Manager (Greek speaking, B2B account management).

What it means: a rare case of a large company publishing its range openly. It is a usable benchmark for mid-level customer-facing roles in the region — and a helpful reference point if you are rebuilding your own compensation grid. (Jobs)

5. Board and C-level changes

Bragg Gaming appointed Matt Davey non-executive chairman; Matevz Mazij stays on as CEO but left the board after shareholders voted against his re-election. Separately, Entain parted ways with CMO Charlotte Emery (UK and Ireland brands) and is looking for a replacement.

What it means: board and C-level moves almost always pull a wave of change one or two levels below — new leadership brings its own people. An open CMO seat at a group the size of Entain also means elevated demand for senior marketing leadership over the coming months. (Bragg, Entain)

The week in summary:

  • Supply of strong product and tech candidates is temporarily above normal, driven by cuts at large operators.
  • Demand is shifting towards compliance, AML and risk under regulatory pressure.
  • The hubs — Malta and Cyprus — stay hot on engineering leadership and BI.
  • Board and CMO changes will create additional movement in the senior segment over the coming months.
