A weekly read on funding, hiring, and executive moves shaping the startup labor market — and what each signal means for talent leaders.
💜 by the IDN Recruitment team
This week’s signals cluster around two poles. On one side, eye-popping late-stage capital is chasing AI infrastructure, AI-security, and defense-adjacent deep tech in Western markets — Crusoe, Cyera and Snorkel AI alone raised over $4.6B this week at combined valuations north of $46B. On the other, the CIS/EE core is showing quiet continuity rather than disruption: TEKEVER’s Ukraine-based drone manufacturing just got a $580M funding boost, SoftServe executed a calm internal CEO handover, and Ajax Systems and Warsaw’s job market both confirm steady, lead-level hiring rather than contraction. Read together, capital and hiring demand are converging on the same narrow set of specializations — AI compute, data infrastructure, cybersecurity, and defense/deep-tech hardware — wherever in the world the engineering capacity actually sits, including inside Ukraine and Poland.
1. Crusoe raises $3.9B Series F at a $30.9B valuation.
The AI-focused data-center and cloud company closed a $3.9 billion round co-led by Atreides Management, Mubadala Capital and Valor Equity Partners (with Founders Fund, GIC, NVIDIA, QIA, Radical Ventures and TPG also participating), funding new “AI factory” data centers and expanded Crusoe Cloud GPU capacity. TechCrunch
Why it matters: A round this size signals a fast build-out of data-center engineering, power/energy, and GPU-cluster-ops roles — categories where demand is outstripping supply globally. Recruiters should expect Crusoe and its infrastructure peers to widen their sourcing net beyond traditional US hubs, including toward CIS/EE engineers with strong low-level systems and hardware-adjacent software skills, as competition for this niche talent intensifies.
2. TEKEVER closes $580M first Series D tranche at a $6.4B valuation, funded partly by its Ukraine drone operations.
The Portugal-based defense-tech company, which has logged over 50,000 operational drone flight hours in Ukraine since 2022 and runs a Ukraine office producing AR3/AR5 drones, raised the tranche led by UC Investments and Baillie Gifford. AIN.ua
Why it matters: Defense-tech is now one of Europe’s best-funded verticals, and this round funds engineering and manufacturing capacity directly inside Ukraine. Expect rising demand for UAV/drone engineers, RF and comms specialists, and defense-cleared technical talent in the region — a vertical that barely existed for CIS/EE recruiters three years ago and is now a serious employer category.
3. Cyera raises $400M Series G extension, holding a $12B+ valuation.
The cybersecurity company, which secures enterprise AI agents and data, closed the extension from Goldman Sachs Alternatives — an extension of a $600M round from three months earlier — bringing its 2026 fundraising total to $1.4B. TechStartups
Why it matters: Cybersecurity-for-AI is becoming its own hiring category and remains one of the most resilient verticals even where broader tech hiring is cautious. With $1.4B raised this year, Cyera is likely to scale both engineering (data security, AI-agent security) and go-to-market teams quickly — a useful pointer for clients asking where security talent demand is still accelerating.
4. SoftServe names Andriy Stitsyuk as new CEO, effective October 1.
The Lviv-founded IT services company (~10,000 staff, 50 offices) is replacing outgoing CEO Harry Propper with Stitsyuk, a 16-year company veteran and former CFO/COO; Propper stays through year-end for handover before retiring. Forbes Ukraine
Why it matters: An internal, long-tenured successor signals continuity rather than upheaval at one of the region’s largest tech employers — reassuring for the thousands of engineers SoftServe employs across Ukraine and Eastern Europe. Leadership transitions of this kind often precede a service-line reweighting (e.g., toward AI delivery); IDN will be watching SoftServe’s structure over the coming months for early signs of expanded or shifted hiring lines.
5. Snorkel AI raises $350M Series E, tripling its valuation to $3.5B in 17 months.
The AI training-data infrastructure company’s valuation jumped from $1.3B at its prior Series D, in a round led by Insight Partners and S32. TechCrunch
Why it matters: Tripling a valuation in under a year and a half typically forces fast headcount growth. Expect Snorkel and its peers to compete hard for data engineers and applied-ML/data-labeling-ops specialists — a “data-centric AI” niche that’s still thin across most talent pools, including CIS/EE, and one where regional engineers could be positioned early.
6. Ajax Systems has 29 live vacancies in Kyiv, including four lead-level roles.
The Kyiv-founded IoT/security hardware company’s DOU.ua careers page lists open roles for Team Lead DevOps (Platform), Team Lead C++ Developer (VMS, Lviv), Embedded WiFi Technical Lead, and QA Lead (Prod Tools), as of September 24. DOU.ua
Why it matters: Continued lead-level hiring inside Ukraine, war conditions notwithstanding, is a meaningful resilience signal for embedded/IoT and hardware engineering talent. It’s a reminder to recruiters that specialist hardware roles at scaled Ukrainian companies are being filled domestically, not only through relocation — worth building direct sourcing relationships in Kyiv and Lviv rather than assuming talent has to move.
7. Warsaw’s tech job market shows 193 open vacancies tagged to the city, including a CFO role and senior product/data postings.
DOU.ua’s live listings for Warsaw include Senior Product Manager roles at Readdle (Odesa-founded, for its Documents Team and PDF Expert), a CFO opening at fintech TODA Pay, and a Senior Data Engineer (Databricks Migration) role at Sigma Software, as of September 24. DOU.ua
Why it matters: Warsaw continues to pull senior and finance-adjacent roles from CIS/EE-founded companies, not just junior engineering headcount — the CFO and senior PM/data listings point to Warsaw solidifying as a leadership and product hub, not only a delivery-center location. Recruiters should track this shift toward more senior mandates in the city.
The common thread
Capital keeps concentrating in AI infrastructure, AI-security, and defense/deep-tech — and this week that money is flowing as directly into Ukraine and Poland (TEKEVER’s drone manufacturing, Ajax Systems’ lead-level Kyiv roles, Warsaw’s senior mandates) as it is into Silicon Valley mega-rounds. Meanwhile, the region’s largest established employer, SoftServe, is executing a calm leadership succession rather than a disruption. For talent leaders, the opportunity is in building specialized pipelines — AI infra/data, cybersecurity, and defense-adjacent hardware — that source directly from CIS/EE engineering hubs rather than treating the region only as a delivery center for Western demand. IDN Recruitment works across exactly these niches on both sides of that equation, and would be glad to talk through where your own hiring plans intersect with this week’s signals.
